Introduction My interest is in handicapped children. However, the specific focus of this paper concerns itself with the preparation of regular classroom teachers, supervisors, administrators, and other educational personnel to meet the needs of the handicapped in these regular or model programs. After three-quarters of a century represented by enormous difficulties and rather modest accom plishments, this may be an appropriate time to review alternatives to the so-called special education model developed in the United States to meet the educational and training needs of our handi capped children.
